Single cover: the Canadian Shield — granite above a cold lake, bare spruce, one break of light in an iron sky.

Chief Batisse

A rally cry for Canadians.

The story

This one was written in a year when the country kept getting told what it was worth by people who had never stood on it. Tariffs on one side of the news, a hundred small towns on the other, doing what they have always done.

It is not an argument. Arguments do not travel. It is a name, a shoreline, and something to sing on the way to work.
