Five a.m. at an inland diner, the flat top sizzling and the fellas pulling in. Rainy and his wife lost a fight with her father, the man who owns the town, and the call came in on the diner phone the moment she knew. Now his friends are heading to the Low Country to set it right. My first exercise in object writing: the story told in things you can touch, the rest left for you to work out.
Lyrics
Verse 1
The sizzle of the thick cut on the flat top
Had my eye on the door as the fellas were pulling in
I'd been here all alone with Telly who'd let me in round 5am,
Wait'n to start the road trip I'd been dreading to the coast.
We'd found out that ol Rainy had lost the battle
With that motha fuckin in-law who'd ran the town
Chorus
When you're one for all,
Then we're all for one,
And you pitch in to set it right,
Down to low country we're off to see to it,
Right as rain.
Verse 2
The old linoleum on the floor near the phone,
She'd called the moment it was certain she'd lose,
And when Rainy had our back from many a moon,
Nobody was getting jipped and that was the truth
Break
Chorus
When you're one for all,
Then we're all for one,
And you pitch in to set it right,
Down to low country we're off to see to it,
Right as rain.
Outro
When you're stepping from the table,
Your gut'll know if you're ready for the high tide
